All levels
3 day class, offered 3 times:
Sept 11-13, Sept 15-17,
and Sept 19-21
In
this premiere workshop, you’ll learn the basics of working with these two
exciting new materials.
First make tear away to use
for texturing the bronze and copper clays, then learn about forming,
texturing, sculpting and joining, about working 3-dimensionally, and
constructing hollow forms. Explore those working qualities that make
bronze and copper clay unique; they
remain flexible and supple when air-dried and can be carved with gravers,
knives, and gouges as well as re-formed and joined with slip.
This workshop will focus on three areas that highlight the strengths of these new materials. First learn a no-seam ring style designed specifically for bronze and copper clays, including how to make polymer liners that both protect the skin*and size rings perfectly to your finger. Second, develop skills for working in the dry or leatherhard stage, such as whittling and carving. Third, learn about the best approaches to hollow forms in bronze and copper clay.
Combining these new clays with other metals and with PMC, firing, finishing and patinas (both naturally occurring during firing and those applied later) will be demonstrated and discussed.
*Some people report that copper alloys color skin. A liner solves this issue.
