4 day class
This workshop is suitable for all levels of experience.
BronzClay is composed of metal powder, binder and water and when fired, sinters into a richly colored, very hard, bronze alloy. Start by etching on polymer (tear away technique) to make your own texturing tools for metal clay. Then explore linkage systems in bronze by forming, carving and firing a linked chain in toto. Next, make a variety of charms to adorn it including your own unique name tag, a toggle clasp and a bronze bell with a beautiful tone.
Learn about forming, texturing, sculpting, molding and joining fresh BronzClay, and about working 3-dimensionally to build complex forms. BronzClay has the best working properties of all the metal clays and remains truly flexible when air-dried, allowing for a range of possibilities unique to this material. It can be carved with gravers, knives and gouges, whittled, and joined with slip to make complex forms.
Firing, finishing, and patinas (both naturally occurring during firing and those applied later) will be demonstrated and discussed.
Students will have ample opportunity to pursue other design directions, as well.
Firing will be thoroughly demonstrated.
A Supply list will be sent in August.
The class cost is $$495.
The Material Fee is $$95.
The material fee includes supplies and consumables, Argentium, sterling, fine silver, brass wire, several packages of polymer clay, Teflon, copies (for tear away), Celie's demo materials (BronzClay, polymer, precious metals), finishing materials, including sand papers for PMC and polymer, studio rent, studio prep, administrative costs, and handouts. Also included are many tools and supplies for you to use including a glass work surface, glass palettes, and a desk lamp.
I suggest you budget 3-4 packs (more or less depending on the individual) of (original) BronzClay.
A list of local lodging choices will be sent upon registration.
The class will be capped at 9 people.
A BronzClay work kit containing a rolling tool, pin tool, deck of cards, blade, palette knife, slip container, Teflon sheet, and a water color brush will be available to pre-order for $25.
A material list will be sent later.
TO REGISTER: E-mail me first to make sure there is a spot in the class. (If you've already emailed me, your spot is secure.) Then send a check for $590 (if you want a PMC kit, please add another $25) by July 15th. This is non-refundable, unless a replacement can be found, in which case your refund would be the tuition minus a $50 registration fee. Please e-mail me if you would like to split the tuition into two payments.
